Celebrating Our 40th
Anniversary!

Saturday, October 2nd, 2004

We invite you to join us to celebrate and commemorate our 40th Year of "Making History Live"!  We have planned a special day, featuring a variety of wonderful activities, to mark this auspicious occasion.  The celebration will coincide with the Watertown Fall Festival, sponsored by the Watertown Main Street Project.  See pictures below to review the events of the day.

Fall Festival Activities

Large Farmer's Market, Trash to Treasure Flea Market, Activities Area for Children, Historic Artisans, Carriage Rides all day with drop-off points on every block of Main Street!  Perhaps a roving musician or two!

Anniversary Celebration

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - Antique Instrument Display - The Market - 210 S. Water Street

Many of Heritage Military Music Foundation's Civil War period instruments will be on display and members of the Band will be there to explain and demonstrate them to the public.

The day started with a display of about 30 instruments at the historic Market building in Watertown. Many stopped by to see the wide range of brass, woodwinds, and percussion on display. Most had not seen such variety of instruments before. Several of the instruments had featured histories, and some interesting restoration histories.

The Ladies Tea and Fashion Show was held in the beautiful Elk's Lodge Ballroom. The affair was sold out, and all enjoyed the costumes, vocal and instrumental performances, and narrative stories told. And the food was magnificent - hardly a crumb left.

3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Historical Program - North First Street Parking Lot "Big Top" (1/2 block north of Main Street) across from the Elk's Lodge

Special Guests

Also appearing will be Max and Donna Daniels as Abraham and Mary Lincoln  -  noon to 6 PM

The Lincolns will stroll the streets before the tea; Mrs. Lincoln will be in the fashion show at the tea; Mr. Lincoln will present the Gettysburg Address and give a presentation on the "Origins of the Gettysburg Address".  They will also participate in the Historical Program.

The afternoon concert was a great success, with a great crowd, who stayed out despite the chill. We departed from our usual historical style, and featured bits and pieces of our many historical sequences, rather than concentrating on one. All of our narrators and soloists got a chance to perform, and the band got plenty of opportunity to show off. The band's founder, Fred Benkovic was also in attendance. Who would have guessed 40 years ago where we would be now. Thanks to Watertown, and all of the people and sponsors who made the day a success! 40 more?
