Dear Dan,

We have the great pleasure of informing you that your film, The Exquisite Risk of Civil War Brass, has won the Da Vinci Spirit Award at the 2002 Da Vinci Film Festival! Each year this award is given to the one film that most reflects the philosphy of Da Vinci Days: that Art, Science and Technology go hand in hand. The Exquisite Risk of Civil War Brass documents a real renaissance - the rebirth of the music and the instruments involved of another time! Well done!

Although few awards can match the scope in which great independent films are made - how can a judging body ever properly mirror through an award the great effort, time, talent, financial sacrifices, sweat equity, and inspiration that so often go into and independent film - what they can do is reflect sincere appreciation for a film well made, representing a judging panel that recognizes excellence in storytelling, artistic vision, and technical creativity.

With that said, we present this award to you along with a heartfelt "thank you" for sharing this film with our festival. Many people enjoyed seeing it, the judges not being alone in their enjoyment of your film (our judges review the films at the festival during the general audience screenings--our venue has a capacity of 800 seats!).

Thank you again, not only for submitting your film to our festival, but also just for being that rare soul who has a story to tell with the talent and the tenacity to tell it through the exciting medium of film and video.

Most sincerely,

Sue Queisser
